Position Description

The National Council on U.S.-Libya Relations is seeking a Part-time Program and Communications Associate to support the Council in its daily activities.

General Duties & Responsibilities

The Program & Communications Associate provides administrative, logistical, and communications

support for NCUSLR:


  • Serve as the primary manager for NCUSLR’s communication platforms - website, email marketing, and social media platforms; Includes updating the NCUSLR website, drafting daily/weekly updates on Council activities, and sharing news about developments in Libya with NCUSLR’s followers

  • Facilitate the Council’s external communications and public relations - includes preparing invitations for events, copy editing press releases and congressional memos, and reaching out to Council partners

Program Support

  • Handle the logistical needs in planning, promoting, and executing ongoing Council programs (Medical Mission, Youth Initiative, & inter-organizational research projects)

  • Assist in the conception, development, and execution of Council events

Fundraising & Grants

  • Research funding opportunities, including relevant grants and crowdfunding methods

  • Help in drafting grant applications and other fundraising proposals


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Middle East & North Africa Studies, or a related field; Ideal for students pursuing a graduate degree in the greater Washington, D.C. area

  • Past professional experience working in administrative support and/or internal & external communications at a non-profit organization preferred

  • Excellent, versatile research and writing skills; Proven ability to write and copy edit letters, memos, and articles for publication

  • Experience using popular social media outlets for promotional activities (Facebook, Twitter,Instagram); Background in designing materials on the Adobe Creative Suite or Canva, a plus

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the Google Drive/+ Applications (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, and Hangouts)

  • Strong organizational skills; Proven ability to multitask, to juggle multiple assignments, and produce work in a timely fashion

  • Proficiency in Arabic & working knowledge of the Libyan conflict and regional affairs preferred, but not required
