Could solar power be the answer to Libya's energy problem
Experts have recently estimated that Libya has the capacity to produce five-times more energy from solar energy than from oil reserves. The access to such a vast resource could alleviate some of the current pressure on Libya's electrical grid and give greater independence to local realities. Libya's current instability presents an obstacle to developing this infrastructure, but a study from the University of Nottingham estimated that Libya could harness the equivalent of 7 million barrels of oil a day by covering 0.1% of Libya's territory.
