Repubblica under Scalfari has been at the core of the Italian political, cultural and literary debates. Nowadays Repubblica sells almost 300.000 copies, uniformly over the national territory, and has local editions in Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Naples, Bari, and Palermo. It has a weekly supplement magazine, Il Venerdì, which on Friday raises the sales of the newspaper near to 600.000 copies. Other supplements are Musica, Salute, and Viaggi.

Repubblica belongs to Gruppo Editoriale GEDI fully owned by private partners, owner of a group of local newspapers (Leghorn, Trieste, Parma, Treviso, Venice, and others) and some independent radio stations as well.
